Cancun Information
When persons plan a Mexico vacation, Cancun usually comes to mind since it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Mexico. Cancun is easy to access from most USA cities. There are numerous activities suited for families and adults; so it is the perfect vacation playground.
The year-round climate and white-sand beaches are attractive for persons wanting a tropical vacation complete with a variety of water sports. Cancun is shaped like a "7". If you are looking for calm water for swimming, you would want to stay in a hotel at the top of the "7". The water along the long vertical part of the "7" has no buffer to hold back the waves so they can, sometimes, get large. This is also the area that gets "red flagged" most of the time. The beaches in Cancun are quite sandy; so snorkeling is not the best. However, snorkel and dive tours are available. Red flags are not a problem, because many people take advantage of Parque Nizuc (Wet 'N Wild) or take snorkel / diving trips.
But Cancun is more than just beaches. Shopping is available at several markets and plazas -- many with upscale shops offering the latest European fashions, expensive perfumes, and lots of jewelry. The most popular Mexican craft market is found at Coral Negro. There is a wide variety of nightlife to enjoy in Cancun -- from piano bars, salsa clubs, dinners shows, and discos with live rock and reggae bands.
Golfers will find challenging, ocean view courses with shaded fairways. Mini golf is available for an afternoon or evening pastime.
Another fun adventure in Cancun is Maya Ventura. which is a labyrinth of human size where players must overcome various obstacles and traps while trying to locate the treasure of Ka Satun.
For those persons wanting culture, Cancun is within easy driving distance of the Mayan ruins, and numerous tours available. The Ballet Folkloric of Cancun is a show held at the convention center and many hotels have Mexican Night evening shows. Mystic Night complete with Mayan dance rituals in 4 temples of earth, wind, water, and fire is very popular. There are several museums of interest: The Museo de Antropologia e Historia (museum of anthropology and history) and Tours of La Distileria (history of tequila) at the restaurant La Distileria.
