Cancun, Mexico
Playa del Carmen & Riviera Maya, Mexico

When persons plan a Mexico vacation, Cancun usually comes to mind since it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Mexico.  Cancun is easy to access from most USA cities.  There are numerous activities suited for families and adults; so it is the perfect vacation playground.

The year-round climate and white-sand beaches are attractive for persons wanting a tropical vacation complete with a variety of water sports.  Cancun is shaped like a "7".  If you are looking for calm water for swimming, you would want to stay in a hotel at the top of the "7".   The water along the long vertical part of the "7" has no buffer to hold back the waves so they can, sometimes, get large.  This is also the area that gets "red flagged" most of the time.  The beaches in Cancun are quite sandy; so snorkeling is not the best.  However, snorkel and dive tours are available. Red flags are not a problem, because many people take advantage of Parque Nizuc (Wet 'N Wild) or take snorkel / diving trips.

But Cancun is more than just beaches.  Shopping is available at several markets and plazas -- many with upscale shops offering the latest European fashions, expensive perfumes, and lots of jewelry. The most popular Mexican craft market is found at Coral Negro.  There is a wide variety of nightlife to enjoy in Cancun -- from piano bars, salsa clubs, dinners shows, and discos with live rock and reggae bands.

Golfers will find challenging, ocean view courses with shaded fairways.  Mini golf is available for an afternoon or evening pastime.

Another fun adventure in Cancun is Maya Ventura. which is a labyrinth of human size where players must overcome various obstacles and traps while trying to locate the treasure of Ka Satun.

For those persons wanting culture, Cancun is within easy driving distance of the Mayan ruins, and numerous tours available. The Ballet Folkloric of Cancun is a show held at the convention center and many hotels have Mexican Night evening shows.  Mystic Night complete with Mayan dance rituals in 4 temples of earth, wind, water, and fire is very popular. There are several museums of interest:  The Museo de Antropologia e Historia (museum of anthropology and history) and Tours of La Distileria (history of tequila) at the restaurant La Distileria.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is truly a vacation paradise for the entire family.  There are cultural events, jungle tours, relaxing beach days, night life, quality restaurants, shopping for unique crafts, water sports, surfing, windsurfing, sports fishing, whale watching, bird watching, go karting, golfing, tennis, swimming with dolphins, mountain & beach biking, horse back riding, hot air ballooning, sailing, and more.

In spite of the tourist boom, Puerto Vallarta has kept its old world charm.  Donkeys are still used for deliveries in some parts of this unique city.

Acapulco, Mexico on the Pacific Coast of Mexico was once a destination of the rich and famous with its beautiful beaches, great shopping and the famous cliff divers who hurl themselves into the sea each evening with flaming torches. Culture lovers will enjoy the "stonehenge" of Mexico, a group of statues carved in the forms of humans in different positions. The San Diego fort, built in the 18th century, is home to a history musueum.  Various festivals are of interest such as the Day of Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12 and the Day of San Miguel Arcangel (St. Michael, the Archangel) on Sepember 29.  This festival, which includes a fair, dancing, and processionals, is held in Coyuca de Benitez, 34 km north of Acapulco. For golf enthusiasts, there are 5 courses.  Children enjoy the International Children's Amusement Center which is a gigantic water park. Isla de la Roqueta is a much-visited, small island very close to Acapulco and features a zoo. Other activities include surfing, swimming, fishing, snorkeling, diving, hiking and climbing, horseback riding along the beach, sailing.  Acapulco is excellent for scuba diving because of the great visability along the beautiful coral reefs.  In the evening people gravitate toward the discos, bars, and dance halls featuring salsa / mambo / and rumba Latin dance.

Los Cabos / Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is located on the Baja Pennisula. It is a nature-lover's and sportsman's paradise with its magnificant scenery, excellent snorkeling and diving, windsurfing, sports fishing, golf, whale watching (in the winter months), and hiking.  Scuba divers love Cabo Pulmo, a beautiful coral reef in a submarine national park and Cascades of Sand formation linked to the San Andreas fault.  Bird lovers include a visit to the San Jose Estuary, a nature reserve for birds when they are Los Cabos.  El Arco has been made famous in many photos.  It is a series of rocks at the junction between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.  It is an area teaming with sea life, including sea lions. The best swimming beaches are Medano Beach and Playa del Amor with their calm water.  Sights of historical interest include the San Jose Mission, built in 1730 by the Jesuits.  If you are fortunate to be in Los Cabos in March you will be treated to the Feast of San Jose with dancing and an enormous craft fair. Nightlife is varied and mostly found north of the Marina. Two popular spots are Squid Roe dance club and Kokomos music bar.
